Mrs Hobson
Katie Hobson
Hello! My name is Katie Hobson, and I am so excited to be your child's first grade teacher this year! I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a "townie;" born and raised in Bloomington/Normal. As a child, I attended Sugar Creek for grades K-6! It is a bit nostalgic being back here now as an adult. I then attended Chiddix Jr. High and NCHS. I attended Heartland Community College for two years, and completed my last two years of college at ISU. I received my Master's degree in Elementary reading in 2007 through Nova Southeastern University. Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a t.a. for two years; first at Sugar Creek with Mrs. Potts and the retired Mrs. Jones, and then at Grove Elementary in second grade. I was thrilled to be hired in 2004 as a first grade teacher at Northpoint El. I taught there for 6 years. Due to Benjamin being opened, class sizes at Northpoint lowered, and I was displaced. When it was my turn to choose from the openings, Sugar Creek was my top pick. I am so happy to be here and to have remained in first grade. Sugar Creek Cheetahs and families rock!
I have been married to my husband, Jay, since 2004. We have two wonderful little boys: Holden was born in 2007 and Hunter in 2010. They keep us on our toes! Becoming a Mommy has made me appreciate my first graders that much more. I realize that they are all somebody's babies, and I strive to care for them and nurture them during the days as if they were my own.
In my spare time, I love attending all of my sons' various sports events and extra-curriculuar activities and just spending time as a family. I love Mickey Mouse and all things Disney, as my students quickly learn. I also like to travel, go to movies, do digital scrapbooking, read, and cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals.
I look forward to getting to know my students and their families this year. I welcome you to volunteer for reading groups and/or to be a "Friday Reader" if your schedule allows it, to join us for our holiday parties, and to enjoy two special programs that we will perform for you in our classroom during the year. Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions and concerns. Parent/teacher communication is so important in order to help your child succeed in school.
